Android Lollipop Smartphone Operating System (OS) Explained

In the Smartphone Operating system (OS), one of the popular one is Android Lollipop. Google is the current owner and developing body of Android OS and also maintained as Open source software. After the Android Kitkat Operating system, it released Lollipop version with more advanced features.

In the current market android is used in electronics devices such as Smartphones, PC Tablets, TVs, Computers and small portable gadgets. It works greatly with touchscreen devices because of simple interface, better looking and touch gestures are mostly close to real world actions. Here, I am going to explain some of the main features of Android Lollipop mobile operating system, which I am experienced on Lenovo A6000 and Moto E 2nd gen Smartphones.

What is Android Lollipop?

Android Lollipop is one of the latest versions, released after the Kitkat OS. It have highly user-friendly user interface, better security, fluidity in touch, better look than Kitkat and improved battery savers. Like the Lollipop candy, this OS also sweeter to users, because it have highly attractive & improved user interface provides better navigation, quick access on notifications and saving lot of time with fast interactions. It made certain changes in design language and platform as compared to previous OS. The notification access is very quick and you can also access quick options from Lock screen; only need to drag your finger from the top. Overall, it provide better look in UI, faster access, security and apps support in new smartphone and other gadgets.

Let us see the main features of Android Lollipop 5.1 OS.

Android User Interface (UI)

One of the main features of Lollipop is that its new user interface (UI). The UI is just like fluid, where all apps are floating inside it. In terms of response, it is really good and uses the new “Material Design” language. The application performance is also improved by replacing the Dalvik with Android RunTime (ART). The new ART helps to save battery and improvements in the boot up of OS. The apps icon looks are also changed and it is better than Android Kitkat. If you are using the Kitkat version, Google will freely provide you the latest android update automatically. You only need to turn on the auto update and make sure that your smartphone of gadget specifications good enough to take the lollipop OS.

There are lots of improvements in camera apps, audio and video features. You can easily connected with Bluetooth speakers (like JBL Flip 2), microphones and audio devices. The camera apps interface and options are improved. The each touch movement’s make some animations in the UI are also interesting and give some enjoyment while operating each of items.

Notifications

In the kitkat version, you need to drag from the top of the screen to access the notifications. Google understand that difficulty of smartphone users and make the notifications in quick access mode. In the Lollipop, the notifications are shown in the lock screen itself and you can directly access it from the lock screen itself. It saves lot of time and you can enter new things with short hand movements. Heads up notifications helps notify the incoming call while playing games or using other apps. You can directly answer the call without quitting from the current apps interface.

New Battery Saver

The battery life is the one of the common problems in most of the smartphone, pc tablets or other chargeable smart devices. In these devices, most of the charges used for display and performance of the touch, tasks and user interface. In most of the cases, OS is main cause to reduce the battery life, because it overloads the SoC processor with complex tasks and results in reduced batterylife of the mobilephones.

In the Android Lollipop, the designers made it to consume less power and allow to more playing time with the phone. The Battery saver feature enables to stay your phone up to 90 minutes. It also have an improved power management system, which manages the background apps running, internet usages, display properties etc when you enable the battery save mode. The charging time also Improved as compared to kitkat OS.

Better Security

The new feature introduced in Lollipop device is that “Smart Lock”, which enables protection from un-trusted agents. That means it only allows to pairing with trustful devices. The guest user mode sharing is also another security feature, which enables to connect with other devices only for some basic purposes by keeping administrator is completely safe. Android lollipop 5.1 made its new phone more secure from the smartphone thefts. It made Google profile password for the factory resetting and without this your phone can’t accessible to others.

New Task manger

In Android Lollipop 5.0 or 5.1, the apps managements are mainly through the new Task Manager. It is just like Windows Operating system task manager, where apps name, stop button and also give information about the total RAM and free RAM memory available for other functions. The multitasking controlled through this interface. You can simply swipe to side for closing the apps or click on “Clear all” for closing all apps.

Overall, Android lollipop is one of the best mobile operating system have new UI with animations, Material design, ART, new security features, improved camera apps, audio control, video format support etc. Lollipop is not yet complete; still have some other features to explain.
