Main Smartphone Processors Powers Mobile Devices

Welcome to my Best Smartphone Reviews blog by Honest Review Network. This is post about commonly used tablet or smartphone processors and explains them some technical details about it.

What is Smartphone Processors?

smartphone processors soc system on a chip major manufatuers and tech details of processors explained

Most of the people should know about the computer CPU and its supporting components. In PC, central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit, RAM, storage all are connected to a single board called motherboard. Like in PC, Smartphones or tablets have different processing units. But they are in combined to form a single chip called “SoC (System on a chip)". It is relay small one contains CPU, GPU, RAM and Memory (internal).

Smartphones are just like mini computers which could be used for playing music, watching movies, playing games, capture HD photos using camera, access internet through web browser, touch screen controls, display technology etc. These all the functions are processed by SoC of your smartphone. For doing or process all the things, processor speed is important. Before decide to buying smartphone, should think about the SoC performance.

In most of the Smartphone specs, after processor name, mention some 1 GHz or 1.2 GHz. This is actually the speed of the CPU inside the SoC. If CPU speed is good, the above mentioned functions are worked in better away. Also the CPU cores are related to the performance of a Smartphone along with CPU speed. You can see the phones or tablet processor having single core/dual core/quad core or octa core currently released and available in market.
Notes: Dual core (Two cores); Quad Core (Four Cores); Octa Core (Eight Cores)

The cores of processor are mainly handling multitask operations and multiple applications. If you have better core like Quad core or octa core, multitasking will more easier than having dual core or single core processor. The core also related to power consumption of CPU; if you have more no of cores, less is the power consumption.

Another benefits of smartphones having more no of cores are quick loading of mobilephone apps, lagless Operating system working, Smooth video & audio playback, Speedy capturing of HD pictures and videos, Good Gaming experience etc. Remember one thing; the cores are only effective when you need to do some multitasking. That is the handling power of CPU is improved. Each core is divided for doing different functions like one for web browsing and same time for video calling without any interruption.

Another cool part of SoC is GPU. It is also integrated in the SoC which process the graphics related data while gaming or web page browsing. It handles the visual data separately, that results the lower power consumption of CPU and improved speed. The separate GPU is more effective while playing 3D smartphone games and giant websites.

These are the main parts of smartphone processor or SoC. It also includes certain co-processors for encoding or decoding videos, audios etc. The co-processors are depends on the processor manufactures and design.

Major Smartphone Processors Manufactures

Qualcomm Snapdragon Processors

Qualcomm snapdragon processors are one of the major smartphone processors producers in the world. It powers most of the android smartphones and windows phones (Microsoft Lumia series). The SoC developed by the snapdragon contains same units of processors as explained above and also uses the ARM architecture. Qualcomm produces a lot more series of processors such as Qualcomm snapdragon 200, 400, 600 and 800 series. These series are also used for different purposes like wearable smart watches, car devices etc. These processors are very responsive, good performance and less power consumption.

Apple AX series Processors

Apple is also one of the giant smartphone producer and they are making processors for their own devices like iPhone, iPod or iPads. It also follows the SoC make and designed using ARM architecture. The apple AX series contains processors such as Apple A4, A5, A5X, A6, A6X, A7, A8, A8X, A9, and A9X. The Apple A9 and A9X is latest processor released with new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones. The apple processors are powerful enough to drive the apple devices efficiently and manges the power consumption of battery also. Gaming is also good with A9 SoC and overall, CPU and GPU performance is improved more than 70% as compared to previous generation.

Samsung Exynos Processors

Samsung is also powering up their device with own processors made under the brand of Exynos. The new devices like Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 uses the Samsung Exynos 7 Octa core processor. The other version of Samsung Smartphones uses the Qualcomm snapdragon also.

These are the three major smartphone processor manufactures. Qualcomm snapdragon series is commonly used in most of the android and windows smartphones. Companies like Samsung and Apple are making won processor for powering up their own devices. Motorola also made processor called Motorola X8 for powering up the Moto phones in 2013, but they discontinued and returned to Qualcomm. MediaTek is also new smartphone processor which is currently growing one, mostly used in Asian smartphone devices. In the upcoming posts of honest review network, you will see more technology information’s about smartphones and its parts.
